I start graduate school this coming Monday and I’m kind of nervous about it. Actually that’s a lie – I’m really nervous. Not so much about the graduate school part (another lie) but more about the summer school part of it. There’s just something about the intensity of a semester-long course being condensed to 5 weeks that makes my anxiety levels skyrocket. Throw in the fact that I haven’t read anything highly academic or written a paper in over five years and, well, you get the picture. If you see me during the month of June and I look a little frazzled just keep walking.
Since Andrew and I are both students (he’s getting his doctorate), we both have access to the student recreation center, which I hear is pretty nice. Mom is coming over tomorrow afternoon to watch Parker so we can go check it out and go to dinner afterward. “Checking out the rec center” is really code for “Heather wants to do a run-through for Monday morning to make sure she knows exactly where she is going and just how long it will take to get from the parking garage to her class.” I have no idea what I’m doing. BUT I do almost have my first-day-of-school outfit narrowed down, which is pretty important. Sentences like that might be why people have a hard time taking me seriously.
